How a Ductless HVAC System Works in Your Allison Park, PA Home

If you’re looking for a very energy-efficient HVAC solution in Allison Park, PA, a ductless HVAC system is worth considering. Using technology similar to that of a refrigerator, it moves heat into or out of your home depending on the season. In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at how ductless HVAC systems work.

Ductless System Components

At its simplest, a ductless HVAC system has an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The larger outdoor unit houses a compressor, which condenses lower-pressure gas into higher-pressure gas. The high-pressure gas enables heat transfer to be completed more efficiently.

The outdoor unit also contains a condensing coil, which houses refrigerant. A fan helps to draw air through the condensing coil and expel warm air from the home during a cooling cycle.

Indoor units are smaller, and each one has a fan and an evaporator coil. Some ductless systems can be connected to multiple indoor units, allowing you to heat or cool an entire home.

How Ductless Systems Work

At a basic level, ductless HVAC systems work by moving hot air from one location to another. When cooling the home, the system pushes warm interior air outside. When heating, warm air is gathered from the outside and pushed into the home.

Heat is transferred within the system through a process of evaporation and condensation. Each time the refrigerant evaporates, it absorbs heat, and each time it is condensed, the heat is released. Depending on thermostat settings, the heat is released into the home or outside of it.

The Benefits of Ductless Systems

Because air doesn’t have to travel through a series of ducts, ductless HVAC systems are extremely efficient. For many homeowners, they result in energy cost savings. These systems, unlike traditional air conditioning systems, can be installed in homes without existing ductwork, making them very versatile.
